The Credit Institute of Canada is recognized as the primary source of credit management training in Canada. The objective of the Institute is to provide its members with the most current and comprehensive educational programs in credit and financial management to meet the needs of students and the business community.

The FCI professional curriculum is designed to provide students with the management skills and confidence to assume a leadership role in their chosen profession. The Credit Management and Advanced Credit Management courses are developed for the Credit Institute by a highly regarded graduate of both the FCI and CGA program. The core courses are developed by the Certified General Accountants of Canada (CGA) with the support of the Faculty of Management, University of Calgary and leading academics and professionals from across Canada.

The Credit Institute of Canada’s educational agreement with CGA integrates 6 courses and exams from the foundation levels of the CGA program into the FCI Program. These courses include accounting, economics, communications, law, finance and management information systems. In total, the national credit management certificate program consists of 8 courses, 6 of which are general financial management, and 2 in-depth credit management, leading to the professional designation FCI (Fellow Credit Institute).

The program is designed for independent study complemented with technology integration and optional lectures, which are available in many locations. The FCI Program must be completed within a seven-year period however it can be completed as quickly as two – three years. Prior to graduation students must obtain five years of practical experience in a credit position. Designated FCI’s are bound by a code of professional ethics and participate in a professional development program.

The technology integration capability and degree level course content developed by professionals active in the business community are important advantages of the FCI – CGA relationship. The (transfer credits) bridging into the CGA course of studies, which will provide flexibility for students to continue their education, is a significant added value to our students. CGA has a highly developed distance education capability and is a well-recognized benchmark in all types of organizations across the country.
