An In-depth Introduction to Credit and Collections

Credit Basics is a Program designed for entry-level to intermediate credit personnel. It provides students an excellent opportunity to learn the basics of credit and provides a good foundation to the FCI program for those who decide to pursue credit as a career choice.

COURSE CURRICULUM

Accounting Basics

This course is an introductory financial accounting course intended for students with limited accounting background and experience. The focus is on interpretation and use of accounting information and its use in the business environment.

This self-study, twelve-week program is supported by technical manuals and materials, which enable students to produce and analyze financial statements. Students are required to submit six assignments, three of which are comprehensive practice sets geared to expose students to every aspect of financial accounting.

Accounting Basics provides the core accounting skills helpful in any credit role. It is also excellent preparation for students wishing to continue their studies beyond Credit Basics into the FCI Program.

Basic Business Law

The purpose of this course is to give students a general understanding of Canadian law and the Canadian legal system. Students will also discover the principles of commercial law regulating modern business and gain an understanding of legal responsibilities and consequences attached to business transactions.

Basic Credit Practices

A Guide for Today's Credit, Collection and Receivable Roles
This course was developed to introduce and enhance the skills necessary for credit, collection and receivable clerks in today's business environment. Topics include credit policies, credit procedures, credit applications, telephone collections, cash applications, basic computer skills, psychology, customer service, and communications. Students successful in this course will have the background skills required to enroll in the FCI Program's Credit Management course.

Fees cover registration, printed material, stationery, examinations, and textbooks. All fees are payable on enrollment.

Time Schedule

Students are required to complete each course on schedule, which will be no later than three months after date of registration. The time frame to complete the entire program is nine months from date of registration. If the course is not completed within the required time limit, students must re-enroll. A re-enrollment fee will apply.

Assignments

Instruction material is issued at the time of enrollment. Students will be required to complete the assignments according to instructions and submit them to the Credit Institute of Canada for marking. Students must have access to a computer and e-mail to complete assignments in Basic Credit Practices and Basic Business Law. Course graduates receive a Certificate of Completion.

Refund Policy

No refund is granted after enrollment. Please assess your position carefully before enrolling, as no departure from this policy will be considered.
